"Perhaps the most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not; it is the first lesson that ought to be learned; and however early a man's training begins, it is probably the last lesson that he learns thoroughly." Thomas Henry Huxley "One thousand days to learn; ten thousand days to refine." Japanese Proverb "By the time you're eighty years old you've learned everything. You only have to remember it." George Burns

LI Green offers GreenSpeaks, an educational program designed to provide noncommercial,  unbiased, relevance based knowledge about green topics.  The programs are designed to be highly interactive with plenty of opportunity for questions from the audience.  Attendees leave these meetings with resource handouts so that they can easily find the products and other items they need to immediately apply the steps that they learn about at this event.

This is the upcoming GreenSpeaks schedule:

Making Your Home and Buildings Non-Toxic With "Green" Materials, Cleaning and Landscaping

Thursday September 18
th
, 6:30 PM at Cold Spring Harbor Library and Environmental Center

The replacement and use of safer alternatives to building supplies, cleaning materials, lawn products and pesticides made from toxic materials is something that all of us need to look at very closely but it is also one that is jumbled by very unclear marketing messages. The purpose of GreenSpeaks is to clear up these confusions. Every member of the GreenSpeaks panel has been working with green alternatives for years, in some cases decades. They will help you break through the clutter and get clear understanding about things like:

* How buildings can make people sick and why you need to worry about this.
* The reasons that children, because of their unique physiology, are especially at risk to illness from environmental toxins.
* What building materials contain the least amounts of volatile organic compounds, formaldehyde, heavy metals and other dangerous chemicals.
* How you can keep your lawn green and lush without hazardous pesticides and fertilizers.
* Non toxic alternatives to cleaning materials made of toxic chemicals that will be just as effective.

LI GreenWiki

"A wiki is software that allows registered users or anyone to collaboratively create, edit, link, and organize the content of a website, usually for reference material. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites." Wikipedia

LI Green has begun to host this powerful technology at our Stony Brook University data center.  While presently in a test state (use at your own risk) the system is ready for people to create pages, describe their experiences, tell about their companies and products.  Long term the goal is for the LI Green Wiki to be the single point for information about green business on Long Island.

You can connect to the LI GreenWiki at http://wiki.ligreen.com
